iF Design Award 2002--product / packaging
/ transportation / public design
iF is increasingly developing into a brand, and the benefits from
winning an iF design continue to grow. Many people who view design as a business
factor unquestionably consider the iF awards to be the most important design
contest in the world. The iF design awards help promote the image of designers
and manufacturers. They are an outstanding marketing instrument, and are the
consumer's assurance of above-average quality. Compete for an iF design award,
and let an iF label draw attention to your design expertise as a trademark with
a winning impact on your customers. Winners receive an iF certificate as visible
evidence of their success. In addition, the top contestants will be awarded
a "Design Oscar" i.e. an iF Gold or Silver Award. In recent years,
these trophies were designed by different big-name designers; in the future,
they will be based on a sculpture created by Herbert Schulte in 1997. The iF
design award has been opened up for students as a way of promoting young talent
and introducing students to international design standards at an early stage.
The relevant contest category is called "Concepts" and, as an additional
incentive, prize money of EUR 25,000 will be awarded. Because, after all, being
one of the best is something to celebrate!

Photo pre-selection
On the basis of the photos and documentation submitted, the jury chairs will
select the products for consideration by the jury. The next step is for participants
to be informed in writing of the results of the photo selection process. Participants
who submitted their entries by the first deadline on 31 July 2001 will be informed
by 30 August 2001, while those who submitted in their entries before the second
deadline will hear by 28 September 2001 at the latest. The jury's pre-selection
is legally valid and there is no legal recourse. Unfortunately, owing to the
large number of entries, we are unable to provide individual justification.
Admission to jury evaluation
Once the photo pre-selection has been made for these award categories, the remaining
contestants will be invited to submit their products for a jury decision between
15 and 19 October 2001. They may send their entries by mail, courier or carrier.
Alternatively contestants can bring their products and erect their display themselves
on 22 and 23 October 2001, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Product displays requiring
complicated assembly orinstallation should be handled by participants themselves,
both for jury evaluation and actual exhibition purposes. Entrants must provide
all of their own materials and dispose of these themselves. Setting up your
own display automatically obligates you to dismantle it as well. Please note
the following points: We require functional original products, including the
appropriate batteries or lighting, as well as a two-meter long power supply
cord ?Large items should be presented as scale models or in the form of large
informative photos showing various details, together with the appropriate documentation.
Please ensure that delivery is free of charge to us, and that transport packaging
is reusable. The entrant will bear the charges of returning the entry, as well
as any applicable customs duties.
Jury
The Jury In a closed selection procedure lasting from 7 to 9 November 2001,
a team of internationally recognized design experts will decide whether you
are among the iF Design Award winners. Individuals may not serve on the jury
on more than two successive occasions. If a member of the jury is directly involved
in one of the entries that have been submitted, he/she will not be entitled
to vote, and will leave the jury when it discusses and votes on the entry in
question. Strict evaluation criteria ensure that the iF Design Award complies
with all design-relevant requirements. All you need to do is to wait until 30
November 2001, when we will send you written notification of the jury results.
As in the case of the photo selection, the jury's decision will be legally binding,
and no legal recourse is possible. Organizational overhead charge for jury assessment
There is no overhead organizational charge for the Communication Design or Concepts
categories.
