Minneapolis Public Library and the City of Minneapolis announce that they expect
to issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) for architectural design services on
or about May 21 for a new Central Library to be built in downtown Minneapolis.
The new Central Library project is a two-block, mixed-use development which
will include a 400,000-sq. ft. worldclass, landmark library to be remarkable
in design and flexible in function, a state-of-the-art planetarium, vibrant
public space, retail and parking. A residential tower and retail will be built
on the adjacent block by a private developer. The project is planned to break
ground in 2003 with completion in 2006.
Architects will be selected through a two-step RFP process. The first step of
the Central Library architect selection process is a submittal of qualifications,
due June 12. Submittals will be screened June 13-26 with a short-list of selected
firms announced on or about June 26.
The short-listed architectural firms will be invited to submit a detailed proposal,
due by July 24. The final selection process will take place between July 30-August
3, starting with public presentations followed the next day by interviews with
the selection committee.
The RFP and a program summary will be available after May 20 online at Minneapolis
Public Library1s website (URL listed below).
