THE CULTURAL AND SOCIAL BACKGROUND TO THE BOCCONI CAMPUS
Luigi Bocconi Business School, the first of its kind in Italy, was founded privately
in 1902 by Ferdinando Bocconi. It is a free, pluralist school whose goal is
to "restore harmony between school and life." Following the principles
and programs of the founders, it seeks to meet the demand for education and
scientific research generated by Italy's national economy. In addition, it aims
to positively contribute to a continuous international process of cultural integration.
The University focuses constantly on the nation's economy and society, and supports
the innovation and development of firms and of the whole country through solid
professional and intellectual training. Culture and science are considered to
be the cornerstone of Italy's renewal, and economic and moral growth. Bocconi
University is committed to educating creative, flexible students, who are able
to effectively analyze problems and contribute to the professional and civic
growth of the nation with dynamism and ethical sense.
Bocconi University conceives education as a permanent process, which does not
end at graduation. Rather, it spans one's entire career, thereby providing the
capacity to continually acquire new knowledge. Bocconi has always considered
the creation of a truly international cultural center to be a primary objective
and constantly develops international relations with leaders of the global economic
culture.
Bocconi University strives to achieve its goals through research and teaching.
By means of both primary and applied research, the School contributes to the
progress of economic science and provides companies with rigorous operating
tools, thanks, in part, to its intensive exchange programs and collaboration
with international institutions. According to the School, research is essential
in order to feed teaching and contribute to academic development. The School
seeks to provide its students with a solid cultural background and the right
instruments for tackling theircareers in a rigorous and coherent manner. It
also ensures constant retraining for working graduates through a host of advanced
seminars and master courses.
The Bocconi University Campus, whose structure and organization fully meet the
needs of avant-garde teaching and research, is situated in southwest Milan between
the inner and outer ring roads, and is near a large green area named Ravizza
Park.
This urban district was recently redeveloped to convert neglected areas and
expand the greenery available to the citizens. The University Campus played
a key part in this redevelopment, as it is an outstanding sociocultural magnet.
This competition aims to make the most of the Campus's artistic potential, to
make it more enjoyable and accessible to the wider community.
