New value for small cars
The vehicle can be of any category and have any number of wheels.
It can be acommuter, sports car, rescue vehicle, taxicab, or evena vehicle with
a new concept ... anything that takes advantage of small size. For example,
consider the possibilities for a fire truck that is smaller than alight vehicle.
As was the case after the Kobe earthquake, often the streets in places were
disaster has hit are cluttered and large fire trucks cannot get through, so
the damage spreads uncontrolled. Asmall fire truck might be able to reach the
fire, and the water could be supplied by pump from a distance. Thus, with small
bodies the capacities of vehicles can be used to their best advantage through
specialization of vehicle's functions.
The motorcycle taxis common in Southeast Asiaand southern China
are based on the premise that they are only meant to carry one customer at a
time. They can be used even in narrow alleys. But motorcycles are not suited
for large cities with muchtraffic for reasons of safety. There is also theproblem
of rain.
The MCC Smart that is selling so well in Europe isa typical example
of a "kiss & ride" vehicle - a carused by mom to drive dad to
and from the station - with a highly maneuverable body just 2.5-meterslong.
The Smart also offers the fun of customizing it by changing the colors of the
outer and inner panels. But couldn't there be a design more practical than theSmarts?
In this way, our hope is that you will discover newvalues for small
automobiles. The body can be ofany category. The secret of success is to establish
aclear purpose as you put together the concept. We hope you will have fun designing
your vehicle.
